Keeping up with technological change

Charles Dudley Filbey first started his print shop in 1909 on Mill Street in Akron. It was the golden age of letterpress.

From the beginning Star Printing has been a family business as Charles’ stepson “Red” Lauck joined the business in 1939. Our current president, Bob Lauck Sr., has been working at Star over 50 years.

Bob’s two sons, Bobby and Paul, are the fourth generation to work in printing, in sales and management. Many of our employees have been with us for decades.

We moved from South Forge Street to our current location on North Union Street in 1977. Through the years the building has been expanded many times to allow us to better meet your printing needs. During this time printing technologies have changed – letterpress to offset to direct-to-plate – but our commitment to using the best technologies for your printing job is as true today as it was in 1909.
